The APS Program is an investigative service designed to link with existing adult programs provided by other public, private, and community-based organizations. The goal is to prevent and remedy the abuse and exploitation of dependent and older vulnerable adults, age 18 and older.
The program provides protection and remedial activities on behalf of elders and dependent adults unable to protect their own interests, harmed or threatened with harm, or caused physical or mental injury due to the action or inaction by themselves or other persons.
Here are some Vulnerable Adult Indicators. A CARE home provides a protective living environment in a homelike setting for the adult with a disability who cannot live alone primarily due to mental or physical health impairments. Services provided to residents in CARE homes include room, board, and assistance with activities of daily living. Providers also encourage residents to do what they can for themselves and make opportunities for social and recreational activities.
There are specific diagnoses requirements to receive services under this program. Purchasing "long- term care" services for frail persons over 65 years old who are at risk of institutionalization is the focus of this program. Ongoing case management is provided, as well. Respite care is the provision of short-term, temporary relief to those who are caring for family members who might otherwise require permanent placement in a facility outside the home.
This service provides respite care services to caregivers who are caring for a physically, mentally or emotionally disabled loved one. By statute, adults who are determined to be legally incompetent between the ages of 18 and 64 are appointed a legal guardian by the courts. If they have no concerned individual, willing to assume guardianship, the Director of the Department of Social Services is appointed as guardian and the Department assumes responsibility to ensure the ward's well-being.
