According to my amiga the telephone company sold out of Cellular Phones as of last Wed and appliances and electronics are selling well in the stores. She checked with the hotels in town and no problems for her to sign in with a tourist or her family, same regulations as the casa.
Weather is warm with a light rain everyday for the last week. Yesterday she made contact with a tourist and his novia I sent her and after a day of sightseeing she invited them to dinner at the peso restaurant Polinesio and they invited her to a disco on the Malecon. She encountered no problem with the authorities been with tourists so perhaps Cuba under Raul is changing for the better. Only time will tell. Great to see how life on the ground is unfolding! The local authorities in Cienfuegos sometimes seem to take a more restrictive interpretation of 'the rules' than some other cities in Cuba.
If Rancho Luna is this open to Cubans now, that really says something to me. The 'word' must really have gone out. Hi maydaymax, Cienfuegos was the first city to restrict Cubans from fraternizing with tourists unless married to each other and will probably be the last city to allow Cubans to be with tourists or enter into a hotel or resort with a tourist.
But I received an email from J this morning that she strolled through town yesterday with a tourist and his Cuban gf unmolested by the police and went to dinner with them and to a disco and walked home from Hotel Jaguar and you know how far that is from her casa pass the police without setting off any alarm bells. Hotel staff never had to turn away their neighbors in the past because their neighbors knew better not to enter a hotel or resort where they were not welcomed and besides they were probably stopped outside the door by a guard before they got a foot inside the door.
