I'm surprised that the reviews for this hostel are so positive. My partner and I stayed here in May , and had a dreadful experience. Though the staff were friendly, and the communal areas were not too bad, the bedrooms along dark, musty corridors were totally stark and devoid of comfort. We were kept up both nights by drunken Russians shouting, hocking and spitting loudly in the room next door.
At one point they brought a prostitute back to the room; at another I walked into the ladies' toilets to find one of them urinating freely all over the floor. It was just revolting. The hotel is a monstrocity and feels like something out of the novel. Don't go there! It's cheap, but I wouldn't stay there again if you paid me.
That said, Helsinki is lovely despite being hugely underrated. The cathedral is breathtakingly beautiful. Have a great trip! Stayed here for three nights. Basic accomodation with shared facilities but well equipped kitchens where you can prepare your own meals. Excellent location a short walk or tram ride to the centre. Our room was close to the lift so a little noisy.
Very helpful staff. I found Helsinki prices comparable to London, so finding a cheap, modern hostel in a reasonable location in a quiet part of the city was great ask about their student discounts, multi-night and breakfast packages. The accomodation is very basic, reminded me also of my student days in a hall of residence. Communal areas were not so clean either, but adequate. On the plus side, it was warm and reasonably quiet, the free sauna is definitely the highlight!
Definitely a good option for budget accomodation in Helsinki. Stayed in Eurohostel in June, While it wasn't luxurious, it was clean, quiet with comfortable beds. The atmosphere is like a hotel, not a hostel. First, be prepared that Helsinki is unbelievably expensive if you're coming from the US dollar. We took a family room for the 5 of us at 54 euros. You can't eat dinner for that in Helsinki. Surprisingly, most of the clients were above And while the hostel encourages intermingling, most folks stuck to themselves.
