Outside of Colombo there is no nightlife and even in the city it is limited to gambling at casinos, and to overpriced Chinese, Russian and Eastern European prostitutes. There are a few night clubs which are mainly patronized by rich and powerful locals and their offspring who can be volatile after consuming drugs and alcohol in these places.
That pretty much sums up Sri Lankan nightlife. Have you thought of skipping Sri Lanka entirely in favour of Thailand which has what may well be the best nightlife in the world? Thailand is a lot cheaper than Sri Lanka too, and has better and more choices for food and hotels. I also think the Thai beaches are better than those in Sri Lanka.
I think your interests in biology would also be better served in Thailand. If u travell in Sri lanka I would like to give these information. As Sri lankan its a nice place to be there. Unfortunatly do not expect great nite life in Sri lanka when u compare Thailand Malaysia Dubai there is nothing.
Other very important things is Hotel and food is horrible expensive take of dollers to stay in hotels in SL U can stay in australia Sydney much cheaper than SL u can imagine I don't know much about wildlife, rainforests etc, but have heard good things about Yala National Park and Sinharaja rainforest. If you get down south to Galle or south coast beaches and chat to people in guesthouses, you will be able to arrange a tailored tour very easily.
