Objective: The aim of this study was to determinate the epidemiology of smoking in adults from Maracaibo. Materials and methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional research study, framed in the study Prevalence of Metabolic Syndrome in Maracaibo city conformed by 2, adults of both genders; based on the medical information the individuals were classified in smokers, non-smokers and former smokers.
Results: In general analysis Cigarette is the most prevalent tobacco derivative Conclusion: Smoking is an important public health issue in our population, associated with certain sociodemographic and metabolic conditions, additional studies are needed to evaluate, in a multi-variant context, the individual influence of the associated factors.
