On 10 December, pro-government sources claimed that the Houthis were collapsing before the advancing forces, and had lost control of the district of Hays, alongside part of At Tuhayat.
On the same day, 18 Houthis were killed by Saudi bombardment in their positions in Houthi-controlled areas in Hodeidah. On the same day, coalition aircraft bombed Houthi positions in Al Mansuriyah District , killing 22 and wounding dozens of other militiamen. Houthi official said that the claim was false, as they broadcast a video of Yusuf al-Madani, in which he claimed that he is alive, and that the one killed was Abu Jibril.
On December 29, Houthis reportedly outmaneuvered coalition forces in Khawkhah, besieging them inside the city. Houthi fighters called the pro-Hadi coalition fighters to surrender. One of the dead was Tihama commander Osama Muhraki.
Commander Yahya Sharaf al-Din was among the killed. On 2 January, coalition forces clashed with Houthi in Wadi Zami area south of the center of Hays and captured many farms and villages.
The Houthis then fled to Hays. On 3 January, coalition forces cut the supply lines of the Houthis to the front of Taiz during fighting in Hays. On 4 January, 36 Houthis were killed and more than 60 wounded during an offensive of coalition forces in Houthi held parts of Hays district. On 5 January, Houthi commander Ibrahim Abado, and 50 of his fighters, surrendered to the coalition.
